School Engagement
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals School Engagement Programme works in partnership with local Sheffield schools to provide opportunities for students that are interested in a healthcare career within clinical or non-clinical roles.

Work experience is available to students in Y12 and 13
Routes to acquire Work Experience
There are two routes to request work experience, general and direct contact. Whichever route is taken, the application process is the same, all students must apply via the School Engagement Portal. All students must meet the work experience programme requirements. Available placement dates are the same for both routes. The planned weeks are available on the STH School Engagement Portal. The work experience programme is three and a half days long, placements are 3 days duration, (Mon-Wed) and Thursday morning is the post placement reflection session.
General route
Available to students that reside or attend school/college within the local Sheffield Community only. The Learning, Education and Development department will source placements for students. Students will be assigned a placement of our choice, based on the number of places available.
Direct contact route
Students can arrange work experience directly with a member of STH staff. Please see steps below:
- Member of STH staff and student agree placement (The school engagement team will not provide details of contacts within the Trust)
- Member of STH staff inform the School Engagement team of the arrangement via the placement notification form
- Student applies formally via the School Engagement Portal (If school is not listed, the must register on the Portal at sth.ledschoolengagement@nhs.net )
- Student must meet all the requirements for STH work experience programme (see the work experience student guide)

Available to students in Y10-13
Experience Dental services (Y12-13)
Whatever form of dentistry you are interested in, this programme will benefit you. During this 1-day programme at Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, students will gain an insight into the various roles within Dental Services. The day will include talks delivered by representatives from the different professions within the Dental Team, tour of Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, presentation from the School of Dentistry (Digital Learning & Dental Education), observation in clinical areas, experience the simulation suite and the opportunity to question our professional staff.

Experience medicine (Y11-13)
Experience Medicine is a 2-day programme that introduces young people to the role of the hospital doctor and other healthcare professionals. Students will gain insight into the responsibilities and work ethic required of a healthcare professional and undertake practical activities, using teamwork and problem-solving skills.

STH Tour (Y10-13)
This is a 1-day tour around STH Hospitals. Students will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the culture of the hospital and speak to some of our staff. Priority will be given to students in Y10/11).
