School Engagement

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals School Engagement Programme works in partnership with local Sheffield schools to provide opportunities for students that are interested in a healthcare career within clinical or non-clinical roles.

Programme Information
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) offer a limited amount of work experience placements to students in Y10-13.

Available Placement Areas
Clinical Placements (Y12 & Y13)

  • Medicine
  • Dentist
  • Nursing
  • Allied Health Professionals
  • Healthcare Science
  • Dental Nurse

Non-Clinical Placements Y12/13

  • Logistics (Supplies)

Non-Clinical Placements Y10-13

  • Administration

Placement Duration: 3.5 days - 3 days placement (Mon-Wed). Half day Work Experience reflection session (Thursday morning)

Application Criteria

  • You must live within the local Sheffield community
  • Must have attended a job role live virtual event if applying for a clinical placement.  This must be in the same profession 
  • Must comply with all the requirements of the programme (available in the student guidebook)

Programme Information
A variety of professionals from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH) will deliver a 15–20-minute presentation of what it’s really like to be in that role.  This will include challenges, rewards, skills needed and personal experience.  The presentation will be followed by 10-15 minutes Question and Answer.  Students will have the opportunity to put their questions to the professionals. Each event will feature 2 professional areas.
Professional areas include, medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals, Healthcare Science.

Time:  2.00 – 3.15pm
Delivery Platform: MS Teams

  • Must be in Y 10-13
  • Must attend a school or reside within the locality of Sheffield

Programme Information
Introduces young people to the role of the hospital doctor.  They will gain insight into the responsibilities and work ethic required and undertake practical activities, using teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Duration: 2 Days

9am-4pm: Must attend both days of chosen programme
